In a folding camera in which the camera bed, pivoted to the body, is lowered by means of a pair of jointed braces at each side of the camera, one brace of each pair being pivoted to the bed near the front and the other being pivoted to the upper part of the camera body, at each side of the camera front is rigidly connected or integrally formed a downwardly extending part adapted when the front is in the taking position to be gripped at its lower end solely between an upstanding front abutment on the bed and a rear abutment carried by the adjacent bed brace to hold the front rigid. Preferably the camera is of the selferecting type. As shown, a camera bed, 2 hinged to the body 1 at 3 is guided at each side by braces 6, 8 jointed at 7 and respectively pivoted at 9 to a plate 10 fixed to the bed and at 11 to the body 1, a spring 13 attached to the tail of the brace 8 and to a pin 14 in the body effecting straightening of the braces on opening the bed. At each side of the camera, an erecting link 16 pivoted at 18 to the plate 10 and at 19 to the camera front is provided with a cam slot 20 in which engages a pin 17 carried by the brace 6 so that on opening the camera the front is automatically erected. The front is latched in the erected position by plates 23 secured rigidly to, or as shown formed integrally with, each side of the front, the plates being slotted to form a front leg 21, the foot 25 of which is engaged by the upturned end 28 of a flange 15 on the plate 10, and a rear leg 22 which has a rearwardly inclined face 29 engaged by the pin 17 projecting through the cam slot 20.
