Abstract

In a machine for applying coating material to workpieces a coating-applying nozzle comprises a group of similar coating delivery members having holes occupying similar positions therealong, a supporting member for said group arranged to hold the delivery members with their side faces in parallel relation to each other, and to permit pivotal movement of said members and a pivot pin or the like about which the pivotal movement of the members can take place, arranged to pass obliquely, relatively to the side faces of said members through said holes and to cause the group of delivery ends of the group of delivery members to lie upon a line occupying an oblique relation with respect to side faces of the group. Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, the nozzle 10 is made of a group of identical coating delivery members 60 made from plates of equal length hinged for up and down movement upon a pivot pin 62 extending obliquely between links 64, 66 of forked block 68, and through members 60. When the plates are arranged between the parallel links 64 and 66 of forked member 68 the relation of the oblique pin 62 to the side faces of members 60 causes one corner only at each end of hole 74 to engage the pin, Fig. 7. But since only a small vertical movement of the work contacting ends of the delivery plates 60 takes place as they swing about pin 62 the plates can move freely up and down the required distance while downward movement is limited by engagement of portions 76, Fig. 3, with recessed portions of block 68. Delivery plates 60 are urged downwardly against the crank by wire springs 80 on plate 92 attached to block 68, the lower end of the springs sliding in grooves 84, Fig. 7.
