Abstract
680,039. Pliers. BOABANDS, Ltd., and BALLANTYNE, L. H. May 10, 1951 [May 10, 1950], No. 11679/50. Class 61 (ii). Sealing pliers comprise two angularly movable arms 10 and 11 and a pair of pivoted jaws 18 which are rocked into open or closed position by movement of a pin 17 in guides on the arm 10 which is provided with a cam track with which co-operates a cam follower provided on the arm 11. The arm 10 opens out at one end into two parallel flat heads 12 each recessed to receive cam plates 13 and 14 which provide a cam track 15 between them. Guide slots 16 for the ends of the pin 17 are provided in the heads 12 the jaws 18 being pivoted to the heads at 19 and each jaw being connected to the pin by a pivoted link 24. The arm 11 has a cross head 21 one end of which is pivoted to the pin 17, the other end having mounted thereon a pair of freely rotatable cam followers 22 which run along the cam tracks 15. The shape of the cam tracks is such that greater angular movement of the arms is required at the ends of the angular range than at the centre of the range for the same relative movement of the jaws.
