Abstract

1322185 Applying spouts to containers SEAL SPOUT EUROPE SpA 13 Nov 1970 54177/70 Heading B3A A machine for applying metal spouts 14, Fig. 2, to cardboard containers 11 comprises a turret 16, Fig. 1, with radially slidable stems 19 arranged singly or in pairs and on which spout applying devices C are pivotably mounted under the control of rollers 26 and cams 27, 28 which ensure the devices move in a rectilinear path parallel to the path of the container during the application of the spouts. Each device C preferably has two parallel stems 19, Fig. 2, spring- biased outwards and the stems have a block 37 at their outer ends with a bore for a pivot pin 24 on a plate 25 which carries the rollers 26. The block 37 also has a pivot pin 32 for a pair of arms 29, 31. The arm 29 has a hammer 67 which slides in a body 68 in which a spout 14 is loaded. The other arm 31 has an anvil 70 which is moved against the inside wall of the container. The arms have rollers 33, 34 which co-operate with a cam 35 at the spout applying zone. The hammer 67 pushes the spout along the body 68 into the container wall and the arm 31 moves the anvil to bend over a pair of fingers (36), Fig. 3 (not shown), on the spout. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, the stems 19A are not spring-biased and slide in sleeves (41) Fig. 6 (not shown), under the control of a roller 60 acting against a cam 62. The orientation of the devices C is controlled by a further roller 59 and cam 61 to ensure the devices move in a straight line during the application of the spouts.
