Abstract

1468904 Coating apparatus VAN VLAANDEREN CONTAINER MACHINERY INC 15 May 1974 [16 May 1973] 21563/74 Heading B2L [Also in Division B6] Apparatus for printing on cams mounted on a continuously-rotating carrier includes a trip mechanism to displace a cam support from printing position when a cam is sensed to be absent or incorrectly-positioned. In an embodiment, Fig. 2 continuously-rotating carrier 20 mounts a plurality of mandrels 30, each mandrel consisting of a cam support shaft 32 and a main shaft (47) Fig. 5 (not shown), the axis of shaft 32 being offset from the axis of shaft (47), and shaft (47) being mounted in an eccentric sleeve (52) within a bore (53) of the carrier 20. Each mandrel 20 is provided with a cam follower 34 co-operating with trip cams 24, 25 so that each cam co-operates with alternate mandrels. If a sensor device 38 senses the absence of a cam on its support shaft 32, the relevant trip cam 24, 25 is displaced by air cylinder 36 and causes the mandrel to pivot by reason of the eccentric sleeve/bore (52, 53) into the position shown at E on Fig. 2, thus preventing contact of the support 32 with blanket cylinder 16. A sensor cam and follower (70, 71) restores the position of the mandrel, the printing and tripping positions being held in either situation by spring 59 on arm 60 which together with pin (61) Fig. 5 (not shown) act as a toggle linkage.
