Abstract

1344276 Fluid pressure apparatus AFFILIATED MFRS Inc 7 June 1971 19275/71 Heading F1D [Also in Division F2] A double acting vacuum cylinder 22 imparts linear and subsequent part-rotational movement at each end of its stroke to a piston rod 46 carrying a tool, or transfer device, 100, the arrangement being such that the tool may thus be withdrawn from a line of travel of workpieces (not shown) between operations by rotating i.e. pivoting the tool 100 to take it out of contact with the workpiece and moving the tool linearly out of the way of a new workpiece which is approaching the work station, the tool then being moved linearly towards the workpiece and rotated into engagement with the newly positioned workpiece. Adjustable valves 34, 36 control the speed of operation of the cylinder 22 the piston 28 of which is slidably keyed at 98 therein and has an integral sleeve 64 slidably positioned on the rod 46 between opposing spring loaded abutments 66, 68, the sleeve 64 being formed with a cam slot 86 engaged by a pin 90 on the rod 46 such that at the end of each stroke of the rod 46, controlled by shoulders 58, 60 on the rod 46 engaging stroke adjuster stops 54, 56 on the cylinder ends 24, 26, the rotationally fast piston 28 overcomes the appropriate spring abutment 66 or 68 to slide relative the axially stationed rod 46 and via the cam slot and pin connection 86, 90 rotates the rod 46 and tool 100 for the purpose outlined above.
