693,328. Masking bands for controlling printing exposures. DEBRIE, A. V. L. C. June 4, 1951 [April 30, 1951], No. 13232/51. Classes 98 (i) and 98 (ii). A mask-band for controlling the exposure light in motion-picture printers comprises a pair of transparent bands secured together to form a number of contiguous equal compartments in each of which is secured light-filtering means adapted to adjust both the intensity and colour of the printing light for a particular scene. As shown, the transparent band 2 is stamped with grooves 6 across its width and is cemented to the transparent band 1 at the apices of the grooves to form compartments 4 for the filters. Alternatively the band 2 may be flat and merely bowed along its length during the cementing stage by removable spacers, or the two bands may be secured in parallel relation by means of spacers separating each compartment from the next.
