Abstract

693,322. Piezo-electric crystals. TECHNICAL ASSETS, Inc. April 30, 1951 [May 2, 1950], No. 10046/51. Class 40 (viii). An artificial piezo-electric element is made by suspending a quantity of finely-divided piezoelectric material in a fluid having a dielectric constant which closely approximates that of the material, orientating the material with respect to its piezoelectric axes, and separating the material from the medium, while maintaining the former in its orientated state. The method used may be broadly that described in Specification 665,452. If quartz is used as the piezoelectric material, a suitable suspension fluid may be produced by mixing a compound such as nitrobenzene or nitroethane, having a dielectric constant much higher than that of quartz, with paraffin oil, turpentine, transformer oil, or olive oil, which have a dielectric constant which is lower. Castor oil which has a constant slightly higher than quartz may also be used in the mixture. Specification 665,451 also is referred to.
