Abstract

693,274. Mortar spreaders. CLARK. R. R. April 4, 1952 [April 4, 1951], No. 8684/52. Class 20(iv) A receptacle for spreading mortar on a wall preparatory to the laying of a course of bricks, has its side walls 5 stepped at 3 to provide bearing surfaces for a horizontally movable plate flooring 4 suspended by struts 23, 24, from a carriage 14, one end 16 of the carriage being provided with grooved wheels 15 which run on guide rails 17 adjustably screwed at 18 to the sides 5, and the other end 19 running on grooved wheels 20 which are rotatably supported in brackets 21 projecting from the end wall 22 of the receptacle 1. The lower edges 2 of the walls 5 project downwardly to provide supports 6 which are covered, e.g. with strips of rubber, to provide loops 12 below the lower edges of the support 6. The end wall 7 of the receptacle slopes inwardly at 8, the adjacent end of the floor 4 being provided with an, adjustable and replacable screeder 9 bent to correspond with the slope 8. The struts 23, 24, are slotted so that the flow 4 can be pulled up firmly against facings 13 on the bearing faces 3. In use the receptacle 1, filled with mortar, is placed on a wall, the loops 12 resting on the top course of bricks a small distance in from the edges of the same. A handle 26, fixed to the end wall 7, and the strut 24, used as a handle, are gripped by the operator and the floor is pulled outwardly, Fig. 2. Mortar drops on to the surface of the wall between the supports 6 and the floor is then pushed back into the receptacle to cut off the supply of mortar, the excess mortar, removed by the screeder 9, being pushed up the slope 8 and back into the receptacle 1.
