Abstract

693,164. Blasting cartridges; depth measurement of boreholes. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Sept. 12,1949 [Jan. 10, 1949], No. 23507/49. Classes 9(i) and 85 Shaped charge 7 for inserting radioactive material in a borehole is constructed as in Specification 693,163, the radioactive material being incorporated in the liner 9. The liner is of the form disclosed in Specification 686,530, and may be made of metal, e.g. steel, copper, aluminium, in which a powdered radioactive material, e.g. carnotite, is included. The powdered metal mixed with powdered radioactive material may be sintered in a mould tn form the liner. Alternatively the liner may be made radioactive after construction by bombardment with deuterons protons, high or low energy neutrons. The liner may be of ceramic material.
