Abstract

693,071. Batteries. ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO. April 16, 1951, No. 8786/51. Class 53. A battery of primary or secondary cells in series comprises positive and negative electrodes 14, 15 welded together along one edge 19 and separated by impervious sheets 17 of insulating material. A number of such couples are stacked to form a battery, adjacent couples being separated by absorbent sheets 18 having slots 19 and being cut away at 20 to form wells for receiving electrolyte. A casing which is open at the top and bottom is built up round the electrodes by means of end walls 29, Fig. 8, and comb-shaped members 25 which fit over the protruding edges of the sheets 17. Alternatively the sheets 17 may be formed with members 23 which abut against one another to form the side walls of the casing as shown in Fig. 7.
