Abstract
692,824. Ejection seats for aircraft. DARLING, R. E. Jan. 19, 1951. [Jan. 24, 1950] No. 1470/51. Class 4. A pilot's seat for an aircraft having a support within the cockpit of the aircraft for guiding said seat in an upward direction, and means for ejecting the seat from the cockpit is combined with personal equipment, including a sectional oxygen hose, a connector including a pair of separable units uniting adjoining ends of the sections of the hose, means for swivelling one of said units on the seat and means for anchoring one of said sections within the cockpit. The pilot 1 is supported by a seat S which is slidably mounted in a rigid frame F carrying a bracket R at its upper end. The depending portion of the bracket R is slidably mounted in a cylinder C and is acted upon by a floating piston P when the explosive charge in a container B is fired. The pilot has an oxygen mask 7 connected to an oxygen container 2 by a flexible hose comprising a plurality of interconnected sections 3, 5 and 6. The sections 5 and 6 are joined by a pair of normally united but releasable connections 11, 12 of which the element 11 is secured to the pilot's harness by a buckle D. The section 3 is secured to the container 2 and is releasably secured to the section 5 by connections. 9, 10 of which the element 10 is pivotally secured at 39 to the ejection seat S. Service wires for the pilot's R/T equipment are embedded in the walls of the hose sections and the various connectors include readilv releasable electrical connections. When the seat is ejected the pivotal connection 39 enables the hose to become aligned with the guide rails of the frame F and when the hose 3 is fully tensioned the connectors 9, 10 are separated automatically. Specifications 685,812 and 691,224, [Group XXXVI], are referred to.
