692,643. Invalids' bedsteads. ARMSTRONG, J. R. March 11, 1952 [Dec. 12, 1950], No. 30314/50. Class 52(ii) An invalid's bed comprises a pair of fixed side rails 5. head and foot ends 3, 4,. a mattress frame 6. 12 slidable longitudinally on the fixed side rails 5 a tray 7 with bed pan aperture 8 slidable longitudinally in grooves 15 on the fixed side rails, the tray 7 having means whereby it may be locked in any desired position. When the mattress frame carrying the patient, mattress and bedding is moved away from the head end 3 the tray 7 is exposed so that the patient may be moved on to a bed pan on the tray 7 which may then be slid towards the head end 3 to enable the patient to assume a sitting position with his legs downwardly disposed between the tray 7 and the mattress frame 6, 12. The mattress frame is provided with rollers 10 for displacement of its frame while the fixed rails 5 are provided with rollers 9 which help to support the mattress frame and also act as limiting stops. The foot end of the bed may be provided with a vertically adjustable castor assembly 11.
