Abstract

691,775. Toothed gearing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 23, 1951, No. 27539/51. Class 80 (i). In epicyclic gearing employing double helical teeth and comprising a driving or driven sun gear 13, a floating reaction ring gear 26, and a driven or driving planet carrier 7, each planet 17 rotates on a sleeve 16 mounted on bearing bushes on a radial pin 22 which is held in a stud 18 bolted and keyed to an extension of the carrier 7 so that each planet may turn, to a limited extent, about a central radial axis and thereby avoid tooth misalignment should the carrier become distorted under heavy .load. The carrier 7 is generally triangular to support three planets and is recessed to support a bearing 12 for the sun gear shaft, which is also supported by a bearing 8 in the housing end plate 4. Spacer rings are interposed between the gear 13 and the thrust surfaces of the bearings 8, 12. The carrier shaft is supported by journal and thrust bearings in a, housing portion 1a. The double helical ring gear 26 may be formed in two rings bolted together, and is floatingly held against rotation by a double-toothed sleeve 30 coupling external teeth on the gear 26 with a fixed toothed ring 31. It is stated that the flexible connection between the stud 18 and sleeve 16 may comprise a spherical or a toothed coupling. Specification. 691,776 is referred to.
