Abstract

691,659. Magnetic dust structures. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 28, 1951 [Oct. 3, 1950], No. 22670/51. Class 38 (ii). A magnetic recording wire comprises a core 1 and sheath 2 of aluminium or similar material with an intervening space filled with a permanently magnetizable, ferromagnetic powder 3, e.g. iron powder. The wire may be drawn down to an outer diameter of 0.1 mm. Copper, nickel or molybdemun may replace the aluminium provided that any heat treatment is at sufficiently low temperature to avoid sintering the magnetic powder. The latter may have a particle size less than 2 Á, e.g. 0.03 to 0.05 Á, and a coercive force greater than 300 Oersted, e.g. 1100 Oersted. Iron alloy, nickel alloy, nickel and cobalt powders are mentioned.
