691,556. Heating vehicles; cooling-systems for engines and brakes. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 13, 1950 [Dec. 13, 1949 ], No. 30475/50. Classes 64 (ii) and 64 (iii) [Also in Group XXXIV] Heat generated during vehicle braking is utilized to heat the interior of the vehicle. As shown, fluid is circulated from a vessel p through a heat-exchanger m and a throttling valve v, connected to a brake pedal, by means of a pump n,. e.g. a gear pump, driven from the vehicle transmission o. The heat generated in the fluid,asa consequence of the braking, action on the vehicle, is transferred by the exchanger m to water derived from the engine cooling-system and circulated through a heater i where the heat is dissipated into the air inside the vehicle. The heating circuit may be shut down by a cut-off valve /. A thermostat f directs the cooling water through a radiator c or direct to a circulating pump e. The hydraulic brake may be replaced by a mechanical brake and the heat generated may be used to maintain the engine temperature, in which case the exchanger would be in the cooling water circuit, e.g. between the pump e and the engine a. A pump may be provided in the heater circuit which circuit may be separate from the engine cooling-system and used also for other heating purposes.
