Abstract
691,517. Overhead conveyers. WULLSCHLEGER, A. Sept. 26, 1951. [Oct. 23, 1950] No. 22535/51. Classes 78 (iv) and 104 (ii). In an overhead conveyer system in which load containers 5 attached to a traction member 3 are led to a loading and unloading station over two guide members 18, 19 the members 18, 19 are movable in opposite directions perpendicular to the direction of motion of the member 3 so that the speed of the members 3, and the container attached thereto, at the location between the members 18, 19 may be varied from zero up to the steady continuous speed of the member 3 outside that location. As shown in Fig. 2 the members 18, 19 are rotatably mounted on slides 10, 11 movable in guides 8, 9. The slides 10, 11 are connected by wire cables 12 one of which is driven by an electric motor 24 through a cable drum 22. A switch 30 operated by a clip 6 securing a container 5 to the member 3 closes the circuit to the motor 24 to pull the slide 10 down and the slide 11 up at a speed of half the steady continuous velocity of the member 3 whereby the container is held stationary at the location between the members 18, 19. The ends of the cable drum 22 Fig. 3 (not shown) are tapered to prevent the abrupt starting or stopping of the container at the station. The slides 10, 11 as shown in Fig. 6 are moved up and down by a lever 51 and rods 50 which are moved by a motor 55 through gears 53, 54, or Fig. 7 (not shown) through separate cables actuated by synchronised motors or as shown in Fig. 8 by the pulleys 18 or 19 being clutched to a pinion 61 which thereupon moves along a rack 65. In a modification shown in Fig. 5 the pulleys 18, 19 are each rotatably mounted on a spindle 41 attached to links 40 pivoted on the slides 10, 11 and the end of the spindle 41 engages a slot 42 outwardly curved at 42a at its lower end so that the pulleys 18, 19 on reaching the lower limit of travel are moved horizontally outwardly to prevent the abrupt halting or starting of the container 5. The member 3 is normally driven by sheave 1 but should this prove insufficient the pulleys 14 and 17 may also be driven. Two or more pulleys 18, Fig. 4 (not shown) may be provided on the slide 10 in conjunction with one or more fixed pulleys.
