Abstract

690,211. Typewriters &c. SMITH & SON, Ltd., W. H. June 10, 1947 [June 10, 1946], No. 13291/47. Class 100(iv) Feeding apparatus for progressively advancing continuous strip stationary 4 having a succession of transverse folds, comprises two drives one on each side of a recording position the more advanced-drive being a friction drive moving at a higher speed than the other. The strip 4 is fed from a zigzag pile underneath a platen 2 past the recording position and between friction rollers 11, 12 driven by a belt 17 from a pulley 18 on the platen shaft. The strip is driven from within the platen 2 by camoperated pins which emerge behind the recording position and since their peripheral speed is slower than that of rollers 11, 12 the strip is tensioned to remove the folds. Rollers 11, 12 are mounted on interpivoted levers 13, 14 and are urged together by a spring 15 fixed to lever 13 and anchored in any one of a series of holes 14<SP>1</SP> in the lever 14 to adjust the frictional grip on the strip 4. The lever 14 can be positioned on the machine frame by adjustment of a slotted connection 15<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> and by positioning the screw 16<SP>1</SP> in one of a series of notches 19.
