Abstract

690,177. Knitting-machines. PLANCK, A. March 31, 1950. [April 1, 1949] No. 8187/50. Class 74 (ii). In an automatic electric stop motion for circular machines, resilient contact fingers 14 held rigidly by one end in a rotating currentdistributing ring 17 and bearing by their free ends on the fabric 13 supported by a countercontact such as the needle cylinder 2, are of such cross-section that the free end of each finger vibrates transversely in a plane containing the finger axis so as to traverse a zigzag path in a narrow band lying about its spiral mean path. The fingers are arranged with their free ends leading somewhat in the direction of rotation when viewed from above, as in Fig. 2. The free ends are formed into elbows 15, so that they may not be caught up in the fabric. The ring 17 may be rotated from one 10 of carriers 10, 11 for the lapping rings 8, 9 of a circular warp machine, by contact of arms 19 with the heads of screws 21 in the carrier; and the finger assembly may thus readily be lifted out of and replaced in the machine. The circuit may energise an electromagnet 24, withdrawing its core 28 from the path of a spring-urged clutch-withdrawal lever 30 ; or it may energize a relay 35 to open a switch 36, 37 in a machine-driving motor circuit.
