Abstract

690,056. Photo-electric control of webs. SPOONER, W. W. Aug. 7, 1951 [Aug. 4,1950], No. 19483/50. Class 40 (iii). To produce a contro voltage dependent or the position of the edge of a moving web, a feeler travelling on the edge of a web varies the light received by a photoelectric cell. As shown, the feeler 3 consists of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 4, one arm 6 riding on the edge of the web 7 and the other forming a mask 5 which varies the light from a source 1 to a photo-electric cell (not shown). The cell is situated behind one or more apertures in a 'housing which may be uncovered by the mask or the mask may have in it a number of differently-sized apertures. The sensitivity of tha apparatus may be varied by moving the cell and light source towards the pivotal axis of the mask.
