Abstract

689,619. Filters. SIMMONDS AEROC'ESSORIES, Ltd. Nov. 8, 1950 [Dec. 28, 1949], No. 7102/52. Divided out of 689,575. Class 46 [Also in Group XXVIII] In a filter element or cartridge for a fluid filter comprising a tubular filter-. ing member 10 formed of paper or other fibrous and porous sheet material, an apertured and rigid tube 15 extends through the tubular filtering member 10 and the ends of the latter and of the tube 15 are sealed by end members 11 providing troughs or grooves containing a hardened sealing compound in which the end portions of the filtering member 10 and of the rigid tube 15 are embedded. The member 10 consists of a sheet of paper impregnated with a stiffening agent for instance as described and claimed in Specification 689,575, and formed into a longitudinally-corrugated tubular filtering member with the troughs of the corrugations engaging the inner tube 15. An apertured tubular casing 16 surrounds, and supports the outer troughs of the member 10. In assembling the cartridge, a hardenable sealing compound 17 such as a thermo-hardening resin, is run into the troughs of the end members 11, which are formed by annular plates 12 and inner and outer peripheral flanges 13, 14, to simultaneously seal the member 10, tube 15 and casing 16 to the end members 11. In a modification the end members provide grooves corresponding in outline to the ends of the filter member and its rigid tube, the ends of the latter being sealed therein.
