689,384. Dipstick wipers. SEELANDER (ENGLAND), Ltd., and BRACKENSEY, A. H. Sept. 26, 1950 [Sept. 26, 1949], No. 24651/49. Class 19. A dipstick wiper comprises a support which is adapted to be attached to a fixed engine member, wherein the support comprises two elements which are each formed with a bifurcated end, said elements being arranged for attachment one upon the other with the bifurcated ends disposed in register and with a piece of resilient rubber or rubber-like material therebetween, such material having a slit or slot therein extending between the registering bifurcations to permit a dipstick to be wiped by drawing the latter through said slit or slot, the rubber or rubber-like material resiliently opposing the separation of the wiping surfaces by the dipstick. In Figs. 1, 2 and 3, a section taken on the line IV-IV of Fig. 1 a strip member 1 has a hole 2 at one end for securing the device to the engine and is bifurcated at the other end. A bifurcated cover plate 3 fits over the bifurcated end of the strip by means of a groove 4 and is secured by fixing screw 5, a sheet 6 of resilient material such as rubber with a slit or slot 7 is supported between the cover plate and strip. The sheet of resilient material 6 may be formed with a second slit or slot 8 to be brought into position when required. The dipstick is wiped by drawing it through the slit or slot 7.
