689,274. Cartons; packing granular materials. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Jan. 2, 1951 [Jan. 4, 1950], No. 155/51. Classes 18 and 94(i) [Also in Group XXX] A carton for shipping granular materials in bulk has internal partitions 15-17 secured to each other and to the side walls to resist bulging. The carton may have legs 13 to facilitate handling by fork trucks, and the base and sides may be joined by interfolding extensions thereof to form a seam secured by glue or staples, the seam being easily undone to permit emptying without tilting. In filling, a sleeve 21 having closing flaps 22 may be fitted over the upper wall of the carton to increase its height to permit overfilling, the flaps being closed after filling to form a lid which is forced down on to the contents to ensure that no loss of shipping space due to subsequent settling occurs.
