Description

TRANSPORT PACKAGE
The present invention relates to a transport package for an article, such as an electric motor, a pump or the like, the transport package having a horizontal bottom panel, on which the article is to be placed, and a hori- zontal , upper cover panel, which is to be placed over the article placed on the bottom panel .
In order to transport, for instance, pumps, use is today made of inter alia, a transport package of this type in the form of a parallelepipedal box made of ply- wood. The box has inner flaps, which are pivotally attached to one or more of the vertical side walls of the box. The flaps are pivotable between a raised vertical position, in which they abut against the respective side walls and allow a pump to be put down from above into the box to be placed on its bottom panel, and a substantially horizontal position, in which they abut against the pump in order to keep it in place in the box. This box functions well but gives oversized protection in connection with certain types of transport. Moreover, the box is relatively expensive.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a simpler and cheaper transport package.
According to the present invention, this object is achieved by means of a transport package which is of the type stated by way of introduction and is characterised by at least three vertical supporting panels which are arranged to extend between the bottom panel and the cover panel in order to abut with an edge surface against the article placed on the bottom panel and support said arti- cle.
Preferably, said edge surface of the supporting panels has an outline that is adapted to the external form of the article. In a preferred embodiment, the bottom panel and the cover panel are of the same size and rectangular, and the transport package has four supporting panels which are substantially diagonally arranged with respect to the rectangular panels.
Preferably, each supporting panel has a lower and an upper edge projection for engaging a slot correspondingly formed m the bottom panel and the cover panel, respectively, which are arranged to be pulled towards each other with the aid of tightening means, such as tightening straps.
In an embodiment which is preferred for certain applications, the transport package has the form of a par- allelepipedal box which is provided with a cover and is made of cardboard.
The invention will now be described m more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, m which
F g. 1 is a perspective view of a transport package according to the invention, Fig. 2 is a top view of the transport package,
Fig. 3 is a top view of the transport package, a cover panel being removed,
Fig. 4 is a side v ew of the transport package m the direction of the arrow IV m Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is a side view of the transport package m the direction of the arrow V m Fig. 2,
Fig. 6 is a side view of a supporting panel,
Fig. 7 is a top view of a bottom panel,
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of a transport package according to the invention, and
Fig. 9 is a top view of the second embodiment, a cover being removed.
The transport package shown m Figs 1-7 is adapted to transport a pump 1 which is only shown schematically with dashed lines. The transport package has a rectangular, m the shown example square, horizontal bottom panel 2 that here constitutes a deck of a pallet-like bottom support 3. The transport package also has a horizontal, upper cover panel 4 that has the same form as the bottom panel 2. As is particularly evident from Figs 4 and 5, the pump 1 is placed on the bottom panel 2. The transport package further has four vertical supporting panels 5 extending between the bottom panel 2 and the cover panel 4. The supporting panels 5 are substantially diagonally directed with respect to the square panels 2 and 4 (see Figs 2 and 3) and rest with their m- ner long side edge surface 6 against the outside of the pump 1 m order to keep the pump m place . The edge surface 6 of each supporting panel 5 has an outline which is adapted to the external form of the pump 1 to support the pump 1 m the best possible way. The upper portion of each supporting panel 5 is narrower m order to make room for electric cables (not shown) belonging to the pump 1 m the space 7 which thus forms m the upper part of the transport package.
Each supporting panel 5 has a projection 9 which protrudes from its lower edge 8, and a projection 11 which protrudes from its upper edge 10 and which engages a slot 12 and 13, respectively, correspondingly formed m the bottom panel 2 and the cover panel 4, respectively. The projections 9, 11 and the corresponding slots 12, 13 have such an elongate form as to prevent turning of the respective supporting panels 5 from their diagonal posi¬
The bottom panel 2 and the cover panel 4 are pulled towards each other by means of two tightening straps 14 and 15, which together form two crosses on opposite sides of the transport package. The tightening straps 14 and 15 are kept m place by means of edge recesses 16 and 17, respectively, which are formed m the bottom panel 2 and the cover panel 4. The above-described transport package is, which should be evident, dismantable into pieces, namely the bottom support 3 with the bottom panel 2, the cover panel 4 and the four supporting panels 5. When a pump 1 is to be packed, the bottom support 3 is placed on a flat base and three of the supporting panels 5 are mounted thereon by their lower projections 9 being inserted into the slots 12 of the bottom panel 2. Then the pump 1 is placed on the bottom panel 2, after which the fourth supporting panel 5 is mounted in the same manner as the others. The cover panel 4 is then placed on the supporting panels 5 so that the upper projections 11 thereof are inserted into the slots 13 of the cover panel 4. Finally, the two tightening straps 14 and 15 are applied in such a manner that the bottom panel 2 and the cover panel 4 are firmly pulled towards each other.
The above-described transport package is essentially made of plywood.
The transport package, which is shown in Figs 8 and 9, is essentially made of cardboard and has the form of a parallelepipedal box that is provided with a cover 18 and is square in cross-section. This embodiment has, like the embodiment according to Figs 1-7, a pallet-like bottom support 3 whose deck forms the bottom panel 2 of the transport package. The upper horizontal wall of the cover 18 here forms the cover panel 4 of the transport package. The transport package according to Figs 8-9 has four vertical side walls 19 each having two diagonally inwardly folded edge flaps 20. The edge flaps 20 of the adjacent side walls 19 are glued to one another and form in pairs the diagonal supporting panels 5 which here are designed in the same way as in the embodiment according to Figs. 1-7, apart from the fact that they do not have any projections corresponding to the projections 9 and 11.
