Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:0688805/IV (b)/1> (wherein R represents either methyl or ethyl, A represents a divalent aliphatic chain containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms, A1 represents a divalent aliphatic chain containing from 2 to 6 carbon atoms and X represents a halogen atom) and corresponding compounds in which the benzene nuclei are substituted by alkyl or alkoxy radicals are prepared by reacting an N - halogenoalkyl - phenthiazine of formula <FORM:0688805/IV (b)/2> (wherein the benzene nuclei may be substituted by alkyl or alkoxyl groups) with a tetrasubstituted alkylene diamine of the formula (R)2N-A1-N(R)2. b -Choroethyl and g -chloropropyl phenthiazine starting material is prepared by reaction of the lithium derivative with b -chlorethyl (or g -chloropropyl) p-toluene sulphonate (J.A.C.S. 66, 888-92 (1944)) and other starting materials by analogous methods. In an example 1 : 6-bis-[N-dimethyl-N-21 (phenthiazinyl - 1011) - ethyl - 11] - hexamethylene diammonium chloride is obtained by reacting N-b -chlorethyl phenthiazine and N : N1-tetramethyl-1 : 6-diaminohexane.
