Abstract
<PICT:0688493/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0688493/IV (a)/2> A machine for the continuous manufacture of artificial yarn comprises, in combination, means for forming the yarn from a spinning solution, a yarn-storage and advancing device positioned above and spaced from the yarn forming means and adapted to draw the yarn upwardly and away from the yarn-forming means and to advance the yarn in a large number of helical turns, a drying device positioned above and spaced from the said yarn-storage and advancing device, and a yarn-collecting device positioned adjacent the drying device. The apparatus may be used in the production and after-treatment of regenerated cellulose yarn. Viscose may be extruded into an acid spinning bath, and the bundle of filaments may be brought together as a yarn which is drawn upwardly to the yarn-storage and advancing device, treatment liquid being applied to the turns of yarn on the device. The yarn is then led upwardly to a drying device and adjacent collecting device. As shown in Fig. 1, filaments from spinneret 2 pass upwardly from the coagulating bath 1 to a yarn-advancing reel 3. Excess of the bath liquid is thrown off by centrifugal force as the yarn passes round the reel. A cover 4 encloses the reel except for small openings for the entry and exit of the yarn. From reel 3, the yarn passes upwardly to another reel 7 where it is treated with several liquids in succession. The liquids are applied separately by rotating brush-like devices 8, as shown in Fig. 2. The reel 7 is enclosed by a cover 9 which is connected to an exhaust duct 21. From reel 7 the yarn passes upwardly to another reel 11 where it is subjected to a further series of treating liquids in succession as it advances from one end of the reel to the other. The yarn passes from reel 11 upwardly to the drying device 16 positioned at an upper level or on a separate upper floor. The device 16 comprises a pair of rotatable metal drums 17 arranged with canted axes and heated internally. The yarn advances axially over the surfaces of the drums in a series of loops, and is passed in dry condition to a winding reel 19 placed adjacent to and just above the drying device. Specifications 474,973 and 474,974 are referred to.
