Abstract

688,491. Securing electric lamp caps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WIGAN, J. W. June 8, 1951 [June 21, 1950], No. 15515/50. Class 39(ii) In order to secure a cap 1 to the bulb or envelope 2 of an electric incandescent lamp or similar device without the use of cement the cap is formed with a substantially plane-sided, e.g. hexagonal, metal skirt portion 5 which is a close fit over a c o rrespondingly plane-sided part of the neck 8 of the bulb, and across each edge 6 between adjacent plane sides of the skirt a slot 7 is cut at right-angles to the axis of the cap in a position that registers with a groove 9 in the corresponding edge on the bulb neck, so that. the part of the cap adjacent to the slot 7 and towards the open end of the cap can be turned inwardly into the groove 9. A single peripheral groove may be provided around the bulb neck instead of a single groove at each edge of the hexagonal portion. Each hexagonal side portion of the cap may be provided with a resilient tongue 12 formed by slitting the material, the end of each tongue being inwardly to bear upon the adjacent part of the neck of a bulb when the cap is mounted thereon.
