688,469. Feeding sheets. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Oct. 3, 1950 [Oct. 26, 1949], No. 27448/49. Class 100(i) Sheet separators.- Apparatus for feeding sheets, carton blanks and the like, of the type in which the leading portion of an end sheet of a stack is seized and deflected clear of the remaining sheets by a suction-head is adapted for feeding blanks provided with a tab portion defined by slits in the blank this tab portion being deflected away from the.adjacent blank prior to the withdrawal of the seized blank from the stack. The blanks 11, Fig. 3, with tabs 13 formed intermediate their ends by slits. 14, are stacked in a magazine 12 above a suction-head 16 which is secured to a rocking shaft 17 journaled in the machine frame, pivotal movement of the shaft 17 being effected by a cam 19 which is secured on a rotating shaft 21 and engages a roller 22 at the lower end of an arm 23 secured to the shaft 17. The suction-head 16 is provided with two pairs of suction-nozzles 24 and 26, the nozzles 24 being positioned to contact the leading portion of a blank .while the nozzles 26 contact the tabs 13. In operation, pivotal movement of the suction-head causes the leading portion of the lowermost blank 11 and the tabs 13 thereof to be deflected simultaneously, clear of the remaining blanks in the stack, the suction head 16 then being in the position shown in broken lines, with a feed roller 27 disposed between the pairs of nozzles 24 and 26. A nip roller 28, mounted between the ends of a pair of arms 29 and rocked by a roller 30 thereon engaging a rotating cam 31, then nip the leading portion of the blank and withdraws it from the stack, thus feeding it on to a platform 32 along which it is forwarded to further apparatus.
