Abstract

A water-setting composition comprises sea-shell grit as an aggregate, and a binding material, and a reinforcing material. The grit, preferably in the form of crushed shells known as sea schram may first be boiled and then added to a binder such as portland cement. The reinforcing material may include wire, wire mesh, expanded metal, and wood lathing and fibrous material such as asbestos and cork. In addition talc, calcium chloride and pigments may be added. The composition may be used for flooring and tiles and may be polished by a sanding machine, wet scrubber or carborundum stone. The Provisional Specification describes also the addition of wood wool, sawdust, wood flour and bituminous emulsion.
