687,889. Mowing-machines. FEATHERSTONE AGRICULTURAL, Ltd. Nov. 26, 1951 [Dec. 4, 1950], No. 29625/50. Class 6(iii) [Also in Group XXXI] In a tractor-mounted mower of the type wherein the mower-bar 8 projects transversely from the tractor and is retained there by a diagonal strut 4, the strut 4 is telescopic and can yield under excess load to permit the bar 8 to swing rearwardly. The mower-bar is hinged at 7 to a tube 3 pivoted to a bearing- bracket 16 carried by a tubular casing 1 secured to the tractorchassis by brackets 2. The tube 3 is slidable around a shaft 14 attached by a vertical pivot to the bracket 16 so that the tube is effectively universally-jointed to the bracket 16. The casing 1 transmits the cutter-drive from a power take-off through a belt 13, shaft 12, crank-disc 11 and pitman 10. The strut 4 comprises a bar 22 slidable within a tube '21 but restrained by a shear pin 23 in a collar 24. A Bowdencable 29 connected between the members 21 and 22 actuates a mechanical-relay (Fig. 5) whicl de-clutches the main transmis sion of the tractor. The relay comprises a spring-loaded plun ger 30 in a tube 31 latched by a member 36 operable by the cable 29 and actuating the clutch through a chain 39. The bracing strut 4 has a screw-adjustment 43 for length to take up wear in the hinge 7. To tilt the mower-bar, the tube 3 may be rotated on the inner shaft 14 by a screwadjustment 18.
