Abstract
687,155. Buckles; buttons. WARDLEWORTH, G. E., [trading as PICCADILLY PLEATING CO.] March 16, 1951 [March 18, 1950], No. 6796/50. Class 43. A fabric-covered dress accessory, e.g. a buckle, Fig. 1, or a button, comprises two moulded synthetic resin parts, namely, a body A having a rearwardly directed peripheral lip B and a plug D which fits inside said lip to trap the edges of covering fabric E placed over the body A, the said parts and the fabric being secured together by homogeneous bonding material F. The parts A, D are preferably made of thermo-setting synthetic resin and, after applying thermo-setting synthetic resin cement to the undersurface of the part A, they are pressed together so that some of the cement impregnates the edges of the fabric E, and while pressure is maintained the assembly is heated to cure the cement and thus effect a homogeneous bonding of the parts A, D and fabric E. The lip B may be outwardly flared and the edge of the plug D bevelled to allow slight expansion of the lip when thick fabric is used. The ends of a separate metal or moulded cross bar H may be received in grooves G, K in the parts A, D respectively, or in grooves in one part only; alternatively the body A may have an integral cross bar which, if it is to be fabric-covered, registers with a corresponding bar on the plug D, or the plug D only may have an integral cross bar. In making a button no central opening is formed in the parts, and the plug is provided with either an integral attachment eye or a metal eye moulded or otherwise fixed therein.
