Abstract
Textile materials are printed by the flat printing process, e.g. the lithographic or offset process, by means of a basic dyestuff which is used in the form of a water-insoluble reaction product with an aliphatic carboxylic acid, in admixture with a fatty binding agent such as a varnish. In an example, the free base of the dyestuff is heated with the fatty acids of oxidized brown coal paraffin, mixed with linseed oil varnish and hydrate of alumina and printed by the offset process on to a silk fabric, which is then treated with wet steam. In another example, the free base of the dyestuff is heated with adipic acid, mixed with artificial resin varnish, hydrate of alumina and mineral oil and printed by a lithographic process on to a fabric of silk and viscose rayon which is then treated with wet steam. Other acids specified are those having more than six carbon atoms in the molecule, e.g. caprylic, stearic and sebacic acids.
