Abstract

685,776. Lamp failure alarms and warning- devices. THOMPSON, J. E. March 5, 1951 [March 3, 1950], No. 5494/50, Class 118 (ii). A device to indicate the con dition of a vehicle rear lamp 10 comprises a pilot lamp 15 which, in series with a resist ance 14, is connected in paralle with the rear lamp 10 and in series with a common resist ance 11. The components are chosen such that the volt drop across resistance 11 ensures that the pilot lamp does not light properly when the rear lamp is functioning, but if the rear lamp fails the volt drop across resistance 11 decreases so that lamp 15 shines brightly. In a modification a further pilot lamp 20 is connected across the resistance 11 so that it shines brightly when the rear lamp is functioning but dims when the portion of circuit containing the rear lamp 10 is broken. A box-like mounting for the two lamps is described having a detachable cover with two apertures containing red and green filters for the lamps 15 and 20 respectively. The resistances 11 and 14 are accommodated inside the box which has a bracket and ring clip for clamping to the vehicle steering column, Fig. 6 (not shown).
