Abstract

685,435. Electric coffee pots. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 15, 1951 [Oct. 18, 1950], No. 23978/51. Class 39(iii) [Also in Group VI] An electric coffee maker consists of a pot containing a spring-loaded infusion basket, which is released by a bimetallic catch when the infusion is completed, the release of the basket also switching off the heater. The perforated basket 4, Fig. 1, is clipped to a lid 5 secured to a rod 6 passing through the lid of the pot, and held in the position shown against a spring 8 by a catch 10, Fig. 2, engaging a notch in the rod. A magnet keeper 12 is secured to the underside of the basket 4 and cooperates with a permanent magnet 13 to retain the heater switch closed once it has been manually closed by push-button 14 and levers 15, 16. After the water has boiled for a predetermined time, a bimetallic strip 9 releases the catch 10, and the basket 4 rises out of the water, simultaneously the removal of the keeper 12 releases the magnet 13 and opens the switch.
