A vat of liquor is steam-heated by a venturi-like tube which also introduces dye. Steam in pipe D passes through apertures d near the <PICT:0685399/IV (c)/1> narrowed throat c1 of the tube C, dye being introduced from pipes E through apertures e. A cover C3 with holes c4 is fitted over the mouth of the tube. The tube C may be fitted in a corner of a vat through which material is passed by a winch machine, Fig. 1 (not shown), and may be mounted vertically or at any appropriate angle. p
