Abstract
685,224. Pick-up balers. STEPHENS, V. J. July, 25, 1951 [April 25, 1950], No. 10161/50. Class 94(i) [Also in Group XXX] A pick-up and baler machine is mounted on a self-propelled chassis with the pick-up mechanism mounted across the front of the machine. A pronged roller 15 mounted in a casing 16, pivoted across the front of the machine and supported on the ground by a wheel 19, picks up hay and deposits it in the casing 16 where it is fed by an auger 26 to an endless chain elevator, mounted in a housing 17, which deposits it on a second endless chain conveyer 28 which carries it along the top of the machine to a feeding chamber 29. The hay is pushed by a feeder member 32 from the feeding chamber into the path of a ram 30 in the baling chamber. The ram 30 is driven by a motor 13, which propels the machine, through a connecting rod, fingers on which project upwardly through the top of the baling chamber on the compression stroke of the ram 30 to push hay, dropped by the conveyer 28, to the feeding chamber 29. Steel tape is used to bind the bales. According to the Provisional Specification a retractably-pronged roller takes hay from the conveyer 28 and deposits it in the feeding chamber 29.
