Abstract
685,112. Automatic spool changing in circular looms. QUALITEX SOC. DUNOD & CIE. Jan. 18, 1949 [Jan. 31, 1948]. No. 1361/49. Class 142 (iii). All the warp threads are brought to the inner shed line and a carrier 52 swings a fresh spool 46 into the path of the shuttle (Fig. 7). The spool has bearings 37, 38, of which the latter is grooved to engage a rib 105 (Fig. 5) on the carrier. As the shuttle passes the carrier, a stop 65 (Fig. 7) arrests the exhausted spool 64, which thereby remains on a carrier 52a, and the shuttle engages the fresh spool; an impulse in the direction of movement of the shuttle is transmitted from the exhausted spool to the fresh spool by the stop 65 acting through a spring 72. The carriers 52, 52a, next swing over to the right, whereupon the exhausted spool falls off the rib on the carrier 52a into a shoot 66. The carriers then return to the vertical position (Fig. 5), where another fresh spool 46a is pushed on to the carrier 52, in readiness for the next replenishing operation, by movement of a lever 48 to the left. The lever 48 is actuated by a crank pin 54 on a disc 55, which is driven by a slipping clutch and normally held stationary by a detent 58; an electro-magnet 86 withdraws the detent to allow the crank to make one revolution during each replenishing operation. Magazine. The spools are stacked in a cylindrical magazine 41 (Fig. 5), channeled to accommodate the bearings 37, 38 of the spools. Each weft end is attached to a cylindrical weight occupying the same height as a spool, the weights being stacked in a compartment 40 (Fig. 7). Latches 49, 50 (Fig. 5), interconnected by arms 80, 81, are rocked by the lever 48 on its return to the right after a replenishing operation to allow a spool to drop from the magazine. The lever 48 also operates a shutter 67, (Fig. 7), to allow the associated weight to fall from the compartment 40. Cutting weft. In the case of wire weft, a hook 62 moves the weight end into contact with a hook 69 connected in an electric circuit; energisation of the solenoid 86 closes a switch 98 (Fig. 5), causing the weft to be severed by burning. Specifications 677,716 and 677,832 are referred to.
