Abstract

684,339. Battery lamps. PIFCO, Ltd. (Shing Flashlight Factor, Ltd., C.). April 5, 1951 [April 6, 1950], No. 8669/50. Class 39(ii) A head 4 enclosing a lamp bulb 6 and a reflector 12 is in the form of a major spherical segment pivotally mounted between a pair of correspondingly contoured brackets on the end of a cylindrical battery casing 1, so that it can be given a full circular turning movement of 360 degrees about a pair of bearing pins or trunnions located on a diameter at right-angles to the axis of the bulb and front lens. The supporting brackets comprise a pair of arms 5 connected together by curved webs 5a of substantially part spherical shape. Focussing is obtained by mounting the lamp bulb within a tube 7 which is supported within a fixed sleeve 10 carried by a plate 11 extending across the head 4, the bottom of the tube 7 being provided with a lug 16 projecting radially outward into a helical slot provided in the wall of a sleeve 13 formed with a flat base and rotatable up a corresponding flat within the head, a manipulating member 14 being provided. One terminal of the battery is connected to the bulb socket 7 by an insulated lead concealed by one of the brackets 5, the other terminal being earthed to the casing which, through the bracket 5, is connected to a flexible lead 8 connected to the centre of the bulb socket.
