684,281. Converting. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRIEDLANDER, E. S. Sept. 26, 1951 [Sept. 29, 1950], No. 23935/50. Class 38 (ii). A polyphase converting system comprises a static converter and is provided with a number of filter arrangements, one at the direct current side of the converter designed to suppress harmonics of an order which is an integral multiple of the number of phases in the converter, and one at the alternating current side of the converter designed to suppress one, but not both, of the harmonics of an order which is one greater or one less than the order of the harmonic suppressed at the direct current side of the converter. The harmonic disturbances are those produced by commutation of the arc from one anode to another. The filter at the D.C. side may also function to smooth the D.C. output. If the filter on the A.C. side is designed to suppress the harmonic which is one greater than that suppressed at the D.C. side, the combination of the A.C. and D.C. filters may suppress, at the A.C. side, the harmonic which is one less than that suppressed at the D.C. side; and vice versa.
