Abstract

684,222. Digesters. AKTIEBOLAGETKAMYR. June 21, 1951 [July 8, 1950], No. 14766/51. Class 64 (i) Relates to a continuously-operating upright cylindrical cellulose digester fed at one end 15 and discharging at the other end 29 and of the kind having an intermediate heating zone such as 33 or 64 from which the cooking liquid is radially withdrawn alternately from sieved portions of the zone by a pump 54, passed through a heater 56 and returned to the digester as described in Specifications 643,201 and 643,269. According to the present invention, the circulation inlet opening 42 for the return liquid is located in the digester at or near the centre of the heating zone. Two forms of heating zone are shown. The first form 33 is partitioned into semicircular portions 35A, 35B from which the liquid is withdrawn alternately through a sieve 31 under the control of a change-over valve 51. The liquid is returned through an axial pipe 40 having at its end near the centre of the zone an opening 42, or alternatively side perforations may be provided. The second form 64 is arranged in superposed portions having separate sieves 60, 62. Two heating zones may be provided for alternate use, the axial inlet pipe 40 being either vertically adjustable or having openings at each zone with means for closing the one not in use. The double screw-feed 19 for the mixture of wood chips and cooking liquid is shown with a sieve 21 for straining liquid to a passage 25.
