Abstract
684,132. Electro-deposition of zinc. POOR & CO. Feb. 1, 1951 [July 17, 1950], No. 2553/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. In a method of controlling the electrodeposition of zinc on to an electrically-conducting object of a type in which the zinc would normally be deposited in greater concentrations in some areas than in others by direct-current plating, the zinc is deposited from an acid zincsulphate bath with a plating current having an asymmetric waveform comprising an alternating current superimposed on a direct current in the ratio of 2 to 4 volts R.M.S. value to 2.5 volts direct current, at current densities from about 2 to about 15 amperes per square foot. The frequency of the alternating current may be from about 25 cycles to about 60 cycles, and the plating period may be from 8 seconds to about 1¢ minutes. The bath may contain per gallon 48 ozs. zinc sulphate, 4 ozs. ammonium chloride, 2 ozs. sodium acetate and 0.4 oz. sulphuric acid. Specifications 597,426 and 599,707 are referred to.
