Abstract

683,956. Paper containing resin and loading material. KNAGGS, J. Sept. 26, 1950. [Sept. 29, 1949] No. 25059/49. Class 96. High quality printing paper, bank-note paper &c. of high wet strength and opacity is made by adding to the beater a solution of melamine resin e.g. in hydrochloric or acetic acid, and colloidal loading material e.g. titanium dioxide, china clay, or barytes so that a high proportion thereof is retained in the paper, aluminium sulphate or chloride being added to bring the pH value to 4 to 4.2 after beating. The additives may be mixed in a colloid mill prior to use, and the paper formed on a cylinder mould.
