683,208. Typewriters &c. JARDINE, Ltd., J., and HARDY, F. S. May 18, 1950 [March 29, 1949], No. 8438/49. Class 100 (iv). Key actions.-A type-lever operating mechanism comprises a sub-lever O connected by a link C to a type-lever B pivoted on a key-lever F, the type-lever B being moved up to a predetermined point in front of the platen M when the key-lever F is fully depressed whereafter the type-lever B continues its movement by momentum to effect impression; the keylever F pivotally carries at O<SP>1</SP> the sub-lever O shaped with a cam surface P which rolls over a rod or ball-bearing mounted roller Q. At the dotted line position angular movement of the sub-lever O by action of the key lever F ceases due to the part P' if the surface P reaching the roller Q. The type-bar B continues its movement by momentum and the sub-lever O is free to rotate clockwise about the pivot O<SP>1</SP> since the upper surface P' of the cam surface P is concentric therewith. The type-levers are rapidly repulsed by springs R attached to the sub-levers O and which are adjustable by means of a screw W moving a nut V pivoting a pair of arms U connected to levers S<SP>2</SP> which move a pair of rods S<SP>1</SP> and a transverse plate S anchoring the springs R. The cam surfaces P on the sublevers O may be arranged to provide for uniform depression of the key-levers F in all banks of the key-levers which may also be operated by a power drive.
