Abstract
682,413. Raising railway rails. BROCKHAUS, H., BROCKHAUS, J., BROCKHAUS. W., BROCKHAUS. W., and BROCKHAUS, P. April 6, 1950. [April 30, 1949] No. 8703/50. Class 104 (ii). Apparatus for raising and levelling railway rails comprises an arm a releasably connected to the end of a sleeper and adjustable in height by means of a screwed spindle f, the arm a being connected to the end of the sleeper by a strap c, adjustable along the arm a and extending above and below the sleeper face while the screwed spindle f which adjusts the height of the arm a is mounted on a broad base plate k clear of the track. The lower end of the spindle bears on a detachable foot-plate i bearing on a textile plate j resting on the plate k. A lock nut e prevents the spindle f working loose. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 a nut d<SP>1</SP> mounted in a horizontal cylindrical bore at the end of arm a is threaded at right angles thereto to receive the spindle f. In an alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 4, A, B, a nut d<SP>2</SP> is mounted in a vertical bore in the end of the arm a and is threaded in its vertical bore to receive the spindle f and is held in position by a bolt m engaging a recess on nut d', the bolt however being cut away to give a flat at one side whereby the nut can be unlocked. The lower end of the strap c<SP>1</SP>, as shown in Fig. 1, may be flat for use with wooden sleepers but is hooked for steel sleepers.
