682,388. Binding edges. SHIMWELL, O., and SHIMWELL, D. W. June 15, 1950. [July 14, 1949; Aug. 26, 1949; Sept. 27, 1949 ; Jan. 23, 1950] Nos. 18579/49, 22207/49, 24755/49 and 1688/50. Class 42 (i). [Also in Group IX] In weaving a succession of bags comprising two layers x, y of fabric interwoven at intervals to form seams, the seams also consist of two layers, so that when the bags are separated by cutting along the seams, the resulting flaps f can be turned back and stuck to the layers x, y. Adhesive may be applied to one or each side of the flaps; or nylon, polythene, or other thermosetting or thermoplastic weft threads may be incorporated in the seams. According to some of the Provisional Specifications, the flaps are not stuck on to the sides of the bags. The first Provisional Specification describes seams of single-ply fabric having adhesive applied to prevent unravelling after cutting. The fourth Provisional Specification describes two-layer seams having one layer of open weave so that a nozzle can be inserted to squirt adhesive between the layers, which are then pressed together and cut along the middle.
