682,188. Chain saws. ARMSTRONG, J. W. C., and PALFI, J. Oct. 12, 1950 [Oct. 12, 1949], No. 26258/49. Class 145 (ii). A chain saw comprises guides 2, 3 one on either side of the work 1 to be sawn, upright support structures 8 mounted on trolleys and traversable along the guides, and means for mounting the saw 10 at a predetermined height, this means comprising a rigid tubular suspension member 21 connected to the structures at points towards its ends and adjustable in accordance with the spacing of the guides, and means for suspending the saw from said member. The tubular suspension member 21 is adjusted by rotating it with a bar 23 to wind or unwind the cables 24. It is suspended cantilever-fashion by a frame 18 and the free end is steadied on the other upright 18. The saw motor 27 is suspended by a hanger 26 to prevent sag. Brackets 11, 12 receive the saw which is fed into the work by drum 30 and cables 28. Specification 568,988 is referred to.
