An artificial waterfall for theatrical work of the type having a main reservoir tank, a weir tank at high level so that water flowing over the weir is directed towards the main tank and means for actuating the water between the main tank and reservoir tank is characterised in that the weir tank is at the upper end of a vertical framework having pivoted thereto a link parallelogram frame carrying a cascade platform, down which the water flows from the weir tank, and a receptacle at the front of the platform whence the water flows into the reservoir tank. In the form described, the weir tank 3, at the top of the vertical gantry 1, discharges into an auxiliary tank 4 from which the water falls on to cascade platform 7 mounted on a link parallelogram 6 pivoted at 5 to the gantry 1. The water then discharges on to a further platform 10, mounted on two pivoted link frameworks 12, 13, and into a gutter 15 connected to the front of the platform 10. The gutter has a circular opening in which is mounted a collapsable chute formed of a series of nested flanged rings 18 ... 21, the rings projecting through a hole in the stage leading to the reservoir tank 28. The outer end of the platform 7 is lifted by a wire 27 and the frameworks fold up against the gantry. The depth of the upper ring 18 of the chute is such that in the collapsed position the ring projects above the floor of the gutter to provide a sump for any water left in the apparatus.
