Abstract

679,729. Ventilators. GILBERT, L., and HOBSON, L. J. Sept. 12, 1950 [Sept. 13, 1949], No. 23639/49. Class 137 An opaque, translucent, or transparent, ventilator comprising male and female units, in which the air passes through passages formed by co-operating projections and recesses on adjacent units, is characterized in that the sides of the projections blend into the adjacent supporting faces with smoothly flowing lines, and the projections are provided with grooves for the reception of fly screens. The ventilator is an improvement on that described in Specification 583,552. The unit comprises rectangular glass units 1, 2, 3 having recessed undersides, the units 1, 2 being provided with longitudinal projections 4, 4. Shutter blades 10, 11 are vertically adjustable by a handle 28, lifting arms 22, 22, carrying the blades 10, 11, each being secured at one end to the handle. A bolt 27 secured by nuts 34 within the handle 28 is slidable in a bush 37 carried by a clip' 26 having arms for engaging the member 2, a spring 42 housed in a recessed nut 41 providing a clutch engagement for securing the handle in its adjusted position. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 8, grooves. 157, 158 on the under faces of the units 147, 148, and grooves 154 on the projections 149 carry fly shields 161, the shutter blade 164 having openings 165, is operable in a guide member 166, and the space 151 beneath the member 146 is closed by a plate 163. Figs. 6 and 7 show examples of other units which may be used.
