679,686. Railway-vehicle buffers. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES., and SIEPMANN-WERKE AKT.-GES. May 26, 1950 [May 31, 1949; Oct. 24, 1949], No. 13351/50. Class 103 (v) [Also in Group XXII] A central buffer, comprising a buffer plate extending over a considerable portion of the width of the end wall of the vehicle, is characterised by the feature that the buffer plate comprises a die forging having integral lateral connecting flanges or arms which are fixed to supporting members therefor on the vehicle body, and is provided in the middle at the bottom with an integral hook member which is open to the rear for the reception of a coupling. In the embodiment shown a one-piece buffer plate 3 has two lateral backwardly extending flanges 4 which are butt-welded to the supporting members 2 of the truck body 1. The coupling hook 5 is formed integrally with the plate 3 and has its open end closed by a welded on plate 6. Strengthening ribs 7, 8 are provided. In a modification (not shown) the ribs 7, 8 are replaced by a plate 3. Instead of being butt-welded, the flanges 4 may be riveted to the members 2 and seam welded in order that the buffer may more readily be removed from the truck.
