Abstract
The invention comprises chlorophenoxy-acetaldehyde diethyl acetals of the formula <FORM:0679601/IV (b)/1> where n is an integer from 1-5. They may be prepared by reacting a chlorophenol and the equivalent amount of sodium methylate, or a sodium chlorophenate and a small amount of sodium methylate, with chloroacetal, preferably in ethanol, under pressure, at 140-160 DEG C. In examples there are prepared (1) 4-chloro-; (2) 2-chloro-; (3) 2 : 4-dichloro-; (4) 2 : 4 : 5-trichloro-; (5) 2 : 4 : 6-trichloro-, and (6) pentachloro-, phenoxy acetaldehyde diethyl acetal.
